Six firefighters have been injured -- two seriously -- during a burnover operation at the New York Peak fire northwest of Winnemucca.
Three of the six were flown to Humboldt General Hospital in
Winnemucca. Two of them were then flown to the burn center at
University Hospital in Las Vegas.
The third was treated and released.
The other three firefighters were driven to the hospital in
Winnemucca, treated and released after the incident yesterday
All six were members of the Eldorado National Forest hotshot
crew based near Placerville, California.
A federal interagency serious accident investigation team is
scheduled to arrive in Winnemucca this afternoon to begin a review
of the incident.
The New York Peak fire has burned some six-thousand acres of
brush and trees 65 miles northwest of Winnemucca.
