Reno Police say they've had trouble getting people to come forward with information about this case, because it's a violent crime and witnesses may fear for their lives. But they are hoping someone will come forward, now that the victim's name has been released.

David Johnson, 43, of Reno was shot near the intersection of 5th and Lake Streets in Downtown Reno just before 5 AM Tuesday morning. He collapsed in front of the Fireside Market at 4th and Lake Streets shortly after. He was then taken to Washoe Medical Center where he died from the gunshot wound.

Investigators say they don't know what he was doing in that area in the early-morning hours, or why he may have been targeted. They do not know if the crime was gang- or drug-related. Johnson's family has no idea why he was in the area during that time of the morning.

In you have information about this crime, you are urged to contact Secret Witness at 322-4900. There is a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

David Johnson is survived by his wife and children, who live in Reno.
