A Reno man is dead after apparently drowning while taking a quick dip in Lake Tahoe.
Officials say 52-year-old Gene Spear and his wife jumped off the
boat in which they were riding, then couldn't catch up to the
craft.
The two were pulled from the water by passersby in another boat
who performed C-P-R on Spear based on instructions from a
dispatcher reached by cell phone. He was pronounced dead at Barton
Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.
Spear's apparent drowning was the fourth death at the lake in
the last two weeks. In addition to the deaths of two 19-year-old
men at Zephyr Cove at the end of last week, 19-year-old William
Lockwood died at a creek along Kiva Beach on July eleventh.
