New fire safety restrictions go into effect this weekend.
Starting Saturday, July 22, drivers who are heading onto dirt or gravel roads in wildland areas must carry an ax, shovel, and a gallon of water just in case they spark a fire. In addition, no campfires are allowed except in developed campgrounds or picnic areas.
These restriction impact the Carson City, Washoe, Douglas and Storey Counties.
Officials say the rules are meant to prevent accidental fires, since ordinary activities such as the use of jumper cables can become the precursor to a major blaze.
