A Senate panel has advanced a bill changing Nevada's education testing and accountability procedures.
The legislation would bring the state in compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio says he's confident the measure will work. His fiscal committee made some minor changes to it.
Raggio says they're meant to complement measures placed in budget accounts.
The federal act imposes a long list of requirements on states and local educators.
It includes an exhaustive annual report on everything from funding to test scores of students, teacher qualifications and alternative education programs.
Some federal and state lawmakers worry it's an unfunded mandate from the federal government.
