Sierra Pacific says the power outages on Tuesday that caused power loss to almost 10,000 homes and businesses in Spanish Springs and Southeast Reno were caused by equipment failure.
But with weeks of hot weather ahead, there is concern about the possibility of more outages. Regardless, Sierra Pacific Official Karl Walquist says our peak load on Tuesday was well below the record.
"We should be OK," Walquist says. "We have adequate supplies that we produce in our own plants and we have power that we purchase from other utilities."
Sierra Pacific says it has recently increased its capacity to import power from elsewhere, if needed.
