A Nevada prison official says methamphetmine use is to blame for large increases in the inmate population.
Department of Corrections head Glen Whorton says meth use is
fueling increases in criminal activities.
Over the past two years, the female population has risen 29
percent and the male population is up 14 percent.
Whorton says he planning an ambitious building program to keep
up with the growth.
He'll ask the 2007 Legislature for the money to design and build
two new prisons, expand others and add three thousand beds by 2012.
The pricetag is estimated at 200 (M) Million dollars.
