The fight over a proposed casino along Pyramid Highway in Spanish Springs returned to the Sparks Planning Commission tonight.
An overflow crowd wedged its way into the Sparks council chambers tonight to speak out pro or con against the proposed Lazy 8 development which would be a western themed casino resort including 200 rooms, 14 movie theaters and three restaurants.
Those in opposition love the idea of everything except the casino which they say will drop their property values and bring crime into the area.
The developer counters by saying more than 90 percent of the project is non-gaming and is exactly what the area needs. They also say the project will not be profitable for them if the casino element is removed. Staff reports and the developers presentation has took hours. Public comment began late in the night and dozens had signed up to speak.
At the end of a long night, trhe commission postponed a decision on the development,
