The names of five fallen law officers were added today to the peace officers' memorial in Reno, including one killed in a motorcycle wreck last fall in Reno.
Officer Mike Scofield was killed September 26th as he sped to a reported accident on his motorcycle. His lights and siren were on but Anna Marie Jackson, 25, pulled into his path. He slammed into her sports utility vehicle and died instantly.
Jackson faces trial next month for driving with an illegal amount of marijuana in her system.
Reno Police Chief Jerry Hoover noted that Scofield was 55 and a 24-year veteran of the department who would have been eligible for retirement this month.
Four other lawmen -- all killed in the 19th Century -- also were enshrined today.
The memorial in Reno's Idlewild Park, was built in 1986 and is funded through donations to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Reno and Sparks police and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
