A car chase Saturday morning in Pershing County ended in a deadly shooting.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says the male suspect was shot after an altercation with police.
Troopers had been searching for a red Chevrolet pickup truck that was involved in a hit-and-run accident. It was then spotted near Mile Marker 64 on Interstate 80, near the Nightingale exchange about 100 miles east of Reno.
Officials say when the driver failed to pull over, spike strips were set up on the highway in two different locations. Once the truck finally stopped at Marker 138 about 32 miles east of Lovelock, a dispute between the driver, NHP, Pershing County Sheriff's Deputies and Lovelock Police Department broke out. Shots were fired and the suspect was killed. No word yet on the suspect's identity or who fired the first shot.
Interstate 80 eastbound was closed for several hours while the investigation continued, but it has since reopened.
