CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada Democrats have a big jump on Republicans in early voting in the state's urban centers of Las Vegas and Reno, election officials say.
Cumulative early-vote totals in the Las Vegas area show ballots were cast by 31,875 Democrats and 13,371 Republicans through midday Monday, according to the Clark County registrar.
While Democrats have a margin of well over 2-to-1 in early voting in the Las Vegas area, Republicans had the advantage in absentee balloting, 6,616 to 6,161 through noon Monday, according to the registrar's office.
In the Reno area, twice as many Democrats than Republicans voted early through noon Monday, according to the Washoe County registrar. The cumulative early-vote total included 6,841 Democrats and 3,336 Republicans.
That's in a county where Democrats have only a slight registration advantage, compared with the strong advantage they have in Clark. The edge for Democrats in Washoe is the first they've had in 30 years.
