UPDATE: Suspect in Reservation Shooting Dies of Wounds

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected of shooting three people to death and wounding another on a California Indian reservation has died from his injuries in a shootout with police.

Officials say 31-year-old Hector Celaya died Sunday, hours after he was wounded during gunfire with Tulare County sheriff's deputies as he tried to flee in a vehicle.

Officials say Celaya, also shot his two daughters, ages 5 and 8, who were with him in the vehicle when he was apprehended about 2 a.m. Sunday.

It was unclear when the girls were shot. One girl suffered life-threatening injuries while the other girl was less seriously hurt.

A motive for the attacks was not immediately known.

The initial shooting was on the Tule Indian Reservation, which is about 50 miles north of Bakersfield.

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say three people are dead and four others - including two young girls - are wounded after a shooting Saturday night on a Tulare County Indian reservation.

Sheriff's officials say when deputies were called to trailer on the Tule Indian Reservation at 7:47 p.m. they found the body of a man and a woman in the trailer and a third body- that of a another man - nearby.

Deputies also found a wounded male juvenile. His condition was not known.

Tulare County authorities did not immediately return a call to The Associated Press seeking details, but the Fresno Bee reports that a vehicle with the suspect - 31-year-old Hector Celaya - and his daughters, ages 5 and 8, was pulled over by deputies around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The newspaper after an exchange of gunfire, Celaya was being treated for injuries.
