Volunteers of America to Run Homeless Shelter

RENO - Wednesday, the Reno City Council approved a contract for $975,000 to be given to the non-profit group Volunteers of America to run the city’s homeless shelter. Volunteers of America run several homeless shelters throughout the country, including Sacramento.

Earlier in the year, after budget cuts, it was unclear how Reno’s homeless shelter on Record St would be funded. Since then, $500,000 worth of private donations has been raised.

Volunteers of America is contracted to run the shelter for one year, with the contract renewable at that time.
