Chain Wrecks Leave Three Dead on I-80

Three people were killed early Tuesday following a chain of accidents on Interstate 80 near Battle Mountain, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the first accident involved a single-car rollover around 5 a.m. another vehicle then struck that one. No one was injured in those crashes, but both vehicles were totaled and in the roadway,
Allen said.

About 45 minutes later, as traffic was backing up, a tractor-trailer rig rear-ended another vehicle near the scene, resulting in a fire.

It was not clear exactly how many vehicles were involved or if
there were other injuries.

Names of those involved were not immediately available.

Traffic was detoured along a frontage road through Battle
Mountain, a small mining community 215 miles east of Reno.
