White Pine County is saying "no" to an initial 12 (M) Million dollar offer for a 75-year water deal with the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
But officials say talks are continuing on a proposal to pump and
pipe millions of gallons of water to the fast-growing Las Vegas
area.
One White Pine County commissioner tells the Las Vegas Sun he
favors telling the water authority to look elsewhere.
But another says there's overwhelming public sentiment to keep
talking.
The Las Vegas-based water authority wants to build a two (B)
Billion dollar pipeline to carry groundwater from the Snake and
Spring valleys east of Ely almost 250 miles south to Las Vegas.
The proposal is one of several under consideration as Las Vegas
reaches out to find enough water to keep up with its fast pace of
development.
