The state agriculture department confirms the first case of West Nile virus this year. A horse out of Sparks tested positive to the disease this week, before being euthanized.
Officials say mosquitoes in the area were also tested for the virus, but those tests turned up negative.
There is a vaccine for horses, and experts say if you haven't immunized your horses yet for the West Nile virus, now is the time.
