State Prison's Medical Practices Questioned

The medical practices at the Ely State Prison are being questioned tonight after a motion was filed last week in the US District Court.

The office seeks a hearing on the prison's medical center, after the deaths of numerous inmates. Allegations have been made that prisoners have complained to prison officials about their health problems, and that several were not treated until it was too late.

A spokesman for the Nevada Department of Corrections has denied the allegation.

The prison's doctor, Steven MacArthur, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
