Douglas County sheriff's deputies are looking for an inmate trustee who fled Wednesday night while taking out trash.
Jose Luis Estrada Tufino, 35, was arrested in March and
sentenced to a year in jail for burglary, stolen property and
destruction of property.
He was made a trustee, a status that allows inmates to earn time
off their sentence for good behavior by providing maintenance and
other duties at the jail.
Authorities said an officer escorted Tufino and another inmate
outside to empty a trash container when Tufino took off running
around 7 p.m.
The deputy took custody of the second inmate and returned to the
jail, where he notified patrol units.
Officers found Tufino's blue jail shirt at a nearby park.
