He was preparing for his senior year and had been named a captain on his football team, but was tragically killed three weeks ago in a car accident.
On Friday night, the Battle Mountain Longhorns took the field for the first time since losing their teammate.
Turner Price was a relatively small guy who was known for laying out players nearly twice his size as a defensive back. Some of his teammates had been playing with the 5-8 150-pound senior for the past 10 years. On Saturday, several of them honored him with messages on their jerseys and one player even had a tattoo with Turner's name on it. Dayton High held a moment of silence in Price's honor before the game, while teammates talked about what it will be like to play without their good friend.
"He's our inspiration," says Randy Verbeck, Price's teammate. "As a team we're going to go up. We're going to keep doing better and better as a team cause Turner's our best friend and he's a hard worker. He wanted to go all out every play, we're going to do that."
Price died in early August when a tire on his Ford Explorer gave out causing it to roll over about four miles east of Battle Mountain. Three other teens were in the car with him, but no one else was seriously injured.
