RENO - There were some scary moments Thursday afternoon at Reno’s white water park downtown. Just before 2:00pm, paramedics responded to the First Street Bridge over the Truckee River for reports of a man drowning.
When they arrived, they found him struggling in the water, but were able to quickly bring him to shore. That’s when he told them his wife and young son were also with him and that they were missing.
Minutes later, police were able to contact the wife by telephone. She said she was safely at home and their son was at a friend’s house. As a precaution, rescue workers searched the river ant its banks.
When rescue crews first arrived, they found the man disoriented and only wearing his underwear. The man’s wife also told police that her husband was supposed to be in the hospital, not swimming at the river.
