SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) - U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne is authorizing another $54 million in federal funds for
restoration and conservation projects around Lake Tahoe.
The new funding includes $24 million for restoration projects and $30 million for improving the environment. It's part of $140 million available from the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
Kempthorne joined U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein of California and Harry Reid of Nevada and other leaders at the 12th annual Lake Tahoe Summit on Saturday.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was also scheduled to attend, but
pulled out at the last minute to have an injured knee examined at a
Los Angeles hospital.
