Friday August 15th at 10:45 a.m. a fatal accident occurred on Interstate 80 about 5 miles east of Fernley.
The accident involved a purple 2004 Toyota Scion, being driven by a 62 year old female from Utah, accompanied by two boys. One boy was 7 and the other one was 3. Both boys were in the back seat of the vehicle at the tome of the collision.
The vehicle drifted off the roadway onto the gravel shoulder north of the east bound travel lanes. The driver lost control of the vehicle when she tried to steer it back onto the roadway. The vehicle traveled into the median and overturned .
All occupants were using restraints and were not ejected. The driver expired at the scene. Both boys were transported to Renown Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.
No indication of alcohol or illegal drugs was found at the scene. Names are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
