Man Sentenced in Police Officer Shooting

A four-time felon will be spending at least the next 20 years in prison for shooting a Reno police officer in the face.

Authorities say Adolfo Carreras, 24, began a gun battle with police in downtown Reno last August. Carreras later told detectives that he shot Officer Al Delvecchio during the standoff, because he "didn't want to go to jail."

Carreras was sentenced to 50 years behind bars Wenesday afternoon, with no possibility of parole until 2026.
