LAS VEGAS (AP) - A man jailed in Arizona in the fatal shooting
of a former U.S. Olympic boxing medalist in Las Vegas is claiming
Roger Randolph told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a jailhouse
interview Thursday in Kingman, Ariz., that he shot 31-year-old
Rhoshii Wells on Monday after Wells robbed him and punched him.
The 26-year-old Randolph says he pointed a rifle at Wells and
fired three times.
Wells won the bronze medal in the 165-pound boxing class at the
1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Randolph was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop near Dolan
Las Vegas police say Randolph threatened Wells during a verbal
dispute, left the area, and returned with the rifle. Investigators
later found the weapon in an abandoned house.
