FALLON, Nev. (AP) - A 49-year-old Fallon man has been sentenced
to life in prison with parole possible after 10 years for the May
fatal stabbing of his live-in girlfriend.
Michael Johnson drew the maximum sentence Tuesday in district court, despite a last-minute attempt to withdraw his no-contest plea to the second-degree murder of 51-year-old Lisa Onyon.
Public Defender Paul Drakulich says the stabbing stemmed from an argument between two very intoxicated people, and Johnson felt remorseful.
But Chief Deputy District Attorney Tom Stockard says Johnson changed his story about what happened numerous times and isn't taking responsibility.
Johnson called authorities on May 5 to his home, where they found Onyon had been stabbed in the heart with a filet knife.
