A man who shot a Reno police officer in the face has been sentenced to about 50 years in prison.
Twenty-four year old Adolfo Carreras must serve at least 20
years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentenced
imposed yesterday (Tuesday) by Washoe District Judge Janet Berry.
Carreras also was wounded in the August gun battle downtown that
erupted after he was stopped by Officer Al Del Vecchio and his
rookie partner for driving a stolen truck.
A four-time felon, authorities say Carreras shot the officer
because he didn't want to go back to jail.
Del Vecchio was shot in the face and the bullet exited out his
ear. He returned to duty in December.
