Pine Middle School Teacher Recognized for Heroic Efforts

A Pine Middle School Teacher was recognized Tuesday evening for her bravery in preventing a deadly school shooting on March 14th.

Jencie Fagan received the Reno Police Chief's "Commendation Medal," and Chief Michael Poehlman noted her "uncommon courage and strength of character."

When Fagan heard shots ring out in the hallways of Pine Middle School last month, she first ushered several students to safety. She was able to talk to and convince the 14 year-old gunman into putting his weapon down shortly after.

The Chief's Commendation Medal is awarded to people whose actions exemplify excellence while performing civic responsibilities, or those who bring honor to the city through their actions.

Fagan accepted her award with modesty.
