Despite receiving a mountain of snow the last two
months, Sierra ski resorts are beginning to close for the season.
Heavenly and Northstar-at-Tahoe are among resorts shutting down
lifts today, a week after Boreal and Soda Springs set the flurry of
closures in motion.
With daytime highs in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area expected to hit
the 70s and 80s later in the week, resort operators say, skiers and
snowboarders are focusing on other activities such as golf and
As usual, Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley and Mammoth Mountain hope
to be the last Sierra resorts to close - sometime after mid-May.
Mammoth Mountain plans to stay open through the Fourth of July
weekend after receiving the most snow in its 38-year history.
