FALLON, NV - Lahontan Valley High School and Churchill County High School are on track to merge, after the county's Board of School Trustees accepted the recommendation.
The decision means the approximately 60 students at Lahontan will likely be transitioned to Churchill. Some students at Lahontan are considered at risk for dropping out -- and some against the plan fear students will lose individualized attention.
The move is expected to save the district about $266,000. The district says it needs to make a total of about $820,000 in cuts. It's been under pressure from the state to improve finances, KOLO reported.
Supporters of the plan say it aims to avoid layoffs by moving staff at Lahontan into open positions at Churchill.
