RENO, NV - In the next part of the prolonged saga of famed aviator Steve Fossett, who vanished last September, rumors are now flying as to what could have happened to him and the possibility that he may in fact still be alive.
The "Daily Telegraph", a reputed British newspaper has claimed that Steve Fossett could still be alive, and that he faked his own death to cover up an affair he was having.
Now questions are swirling as to whether he did in fact actually take off from the Baron Hilton Ranch, and whether the plane descibed to the media on the day that he vanished, was in fact the plane he took off in.
Lt. Colonel Cynthia Ryan from the U.S. Civil Air Patrol spoke with KOLO-8-NEWS-NOW early Monday morning.
Ryan started out by saying that comments she made to the British reporter working for the Telegraph Newspaper, about Steve Fosset still being alive, were taken out of context.
Ryan continued to say, that her concern is also for the volunteers who risked their lives looking for Fossett, and that if Fossett is still alive he needs to turn himself in.
Robert Davis, who is investigating Fossett's death for a $25 million payout to his survivors, says the kind of plane Fossett was flying can be dismantled very easily, and that there's no proof he actually took off from the Baron Hilton's Ranch.
Davis also questions why there was no criminal investigation done into Fossett's disappearance.
KOLO-8-NEW-NOW asked Ryan if there is any evidence that he could still be alive, for example active bank accounts or sightings, but Ryan stated that she doesn't know of any.
