A transportation unit of the Nevada Army National Guard is being mobilized for deployment to Southwest Asia this summer.
Nevada Adjutant General Cynthia Kirkland says the 593rd
Transportation Company is based in Reno with detachments in
Winnemucca and Elko. It has about 150 soldiers.
They will mobilize in Reno on the fourth of July and will travel
to Fort Bliss, Texas, on July seventh for 60 to 90 days of
The unit will then spend about one year in Iraq and Kuwait
performing cargo transportation missions. The 593rd Transportation
Company specializes in hauling fuel.
This will be the Nevada Army Guard's second transportation unit
deployed to southwest Asia. The 1864th headquartered in Henderson
returned October 31st after spending one year in Kuwait and Iraq.
