Lost Skier Survives

A skier is lucky to be alive after surviving more than 24 hours lost on the slopes.
Forty-two-year-old Sven Wetmore was skiing with his son at the
Bear Valley Mountain Resort on Friday morning, when it began
snowing heavily and he ended up going past the lift and into a
separate canyon.
The Santa Cruz man was forced seek shelter after darkness set in
and blizzard conditions limited his visibility. He says he managed
to build a narrow snow cave lined with pine needles to keep warm
through the night.
Blizzard conditions forced the Alpine County Sheriff's
Department to call off the initial search on Friday. A rescue team
resumed its search in the morning and found Wetmore around noon
yesterday.
Wetmore says he's a little tired and dehydrated but escaped any
serious injuries.
