RENO, NV - Governor Jim Gibbons has been all over the media these days, for many reasons. But until now, he hasn't spoken much about the recent changes in his personal life.

Wednesday morning, KOLO-8 had a chance to sit down with Governor Jim Gibbons to hear his views about all the attention on his social life.

While the governor says he understands why his personal life is under the microscope, he says he is not planning on being alone, and that Nevadans should expect their governor to lead a social life, and that includes dating.

"I'm the governor of the state of Nevada, and I have to be the governor 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. But I also want to be a governor that doesn't have to be alone in life," the Governor explained.

He went on to say:

"What I want to tell people is that I'm just like they are, I don't want to be a lonely Governor, I'm going through a divorce. I'm in the middle of a very painful time in my life, this has been going on, my wife and I have been separated for about 7 months. I really think that people should expect, and will, see me with my friends out to dinner, wherever, going to a rodeo, that shouldn't be a newsworthy thing."

We'll have more tomorrow with our exclusive interview with Jim Gibbons.

Why does the media, in particular the Reno Gazette hell bent on trying to ruin the reputation of a man who has served our country in the military and then in Congress. I doubt that anyone at that paper can stand up to the scrutiny they have put the Governor under. Who cares who he dates, he hasn't increased our taxes, isn't that what we should care about, not his social life.

I think that Jim Gibbons should be able to socialize with whom ever he wants women or men, as long as it does not interfere with his job as a governor. And the press should leave him alone!!!!

It's not about his need for a social life, it's about going out with a married woman, no matter how innocent he claims that may be. It's about the likelihood he cheated on his wife. That's what we care about. I hope he does find companionship and love, but not with a married woman.

I thought this was so strange...I think it is PR spin to divert the subject away from his tax cheating,,and very well documented affair..

On your piece on Gov Gibbons I am not interested in his personal life. Divorcing is very hard. My son just went thru one & with children you are never done. Always some kind of argument. If he dates - fine. What I object to is his wife living in the Gov. Mansion. That is not where she belongs. She was not elected. What if he has visitors from wherever do they go to his house in Reno? She belongs in Reno, he belongs in the Mansion & I as a tax payer want her out. Thank you, Mary Porras

I think he could handle himself with a lot more class. Dating x Playboy bunnies is never good PR. What's next? Is he going to come out of a brothel at 3 AM? And what about his changing his tax status? There is something moraly wrong with that man.

Enough already with Gov.Gibbons personal life.Since when is it any of anyone's business what he does behind closed doors? If I want to watch soap operas I will but keep it off the news. If you notice, whenever there's a slow news day, like clockwork it's always about Gibbons. He's an outstanding Governer and that's all that counts. Pick on someone else for awhile.

well, gov. gibbons has failed to live up to two oaths he took. one, for his marriage, the other to the wonderful peopl of my state of NEVADA. ever since he took office this state has been going deeper in to debt.when he started office, there was a $1.25million dollar in the good column, now, well, you know how it is. he does not know the fiurst thing about being a Governor. this last year thru the present proves it. i have never seen my state in this bad of shape. never!! we need a nwe Governor, not later, right NOW!!!!

You know what, I don't give a hoot what he does in his free time. He is human and has a right to a personal life. The media nneds to stay out of it.
