RENO, NV - Governor Jim Gibbons has been all over the media these days, for many reasons. But until now, he hasn't spoken much about the recent changes in his personal life.
Wednesday morning, KOLO-8 had a chance to sit down with Governor Jim Gibbons to hear his views about all the attention on his social life.
While the governor says he understands why his personal life is under the microscope, he says he is not planning on being alone, and that Nevadans should expect their governor to lead a social life, and that includes dating.
"I'm the governor of the state of Nevada, and I have to be the governor 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. But I also want to be a governor that doesn't have to be alone in life," the Governor explained.
He went on to say:
"What I want to tell people is that I'm just like they are, I don't want to be a lonely Governor, I'm going through a divorce. I'm in the middle of a very painful time in my life, this has been going on, my wife and I have been separated for about 7 months. I really think that people should expect, and will, see me with my friends out to dinner, wherever, going to a rodeo, that shouldn't be a newsworthy thing."
We'll have more tomorrow with our exclusive interview with Jim Gibbons.

Why does the media, in particular the Reno Gazette hell bent on trying to ruin the reputation of a man who has served our country in the military and then in Congress. I doubt that anyone at that paper can stand up to the scrutiny they have put the Governor under. Who cares who he dates, he hasn't increased our taxes, isn't that what we should care about, not his social life.
I think that Jim Gibbons should be able to socialize with whom ever he wants women or men, as long as it does not interfere with his job as a governor. And the press should leave him alone!!!!
It's not about his need for a social life, it's about going out with a married woman, no matter how innocent he claims that may be. It's about the likelihood he cheated on his wife. That's what we care about. I hope he does find companionship and love, but not with a married woman.
