The head of Nevada's higher education system asserts Gov. Jim Gibbons is trying to quiet his criticism of the governor's handling of the state's budget crisis and education funding.
In a 10-page memo to the state Board of Regents, Chancellor Jim
Rogers alleges the governor is trying to "muzzle" him by having one of his advisers phone regents in an effort to control what he writes in his weekly memos.
Gibbons spokesman Ben Kieckhefer (KEE-keh-fer) denied Rogers'
assertion, saying the governor knows it would be "completely
fruitless" to try to muzzle the chancellor.
