Lost Snowshoers

The group told rescuers an unexpected storm rolled in and they couldn't find the trail.
North Lake Tahoe Fire Prevention District were the first to respond.
They had a general idea where the snow shoers were because they were constantly talking on the cell phone.

Searchers say the two men, a woman, and two children were calm.
A snowmobile located them about an eighth of a mile in from the road at Sheep's flat.
Rescue crews hiked in after they heard one of the men from the group.

Deputies say the adults and children were cold, but otherwise OK.
They didn't need any medical treatment.
Rescuers say they were prepared for the conditions.

Although, rescuers recommend enough food and water for at least two nights, even if you're only going out for a day trip.
It's always a good idea to check the weather and avalanche conditions before heading out into the back country.
