CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A death row inmate at Nevada's Ely State Prison was found dead in his locked cell Thursday, Corrections Director Howard Skolnik said.
Skolnik said there was no sign of foul play in the death of Daniel Jones, 47, who had been sentenced to die for killing a man in Las Vegas so he could steal his motorhome. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine exact cause of Jones' death.
Jones was convicted of murder and sentenced to death after he pleaded guilty to the shooting death of Don Woody in July 1989. Jones was later arrested in Iowa while driving Woody's motorhome.
Jones also was linked but never criminally charged with the murder of a couple in Jacksonville, Fla., after they had invited him to discuss a possible job. He also had been convicted of aggravated assault for trying to kill his grandmother by hitting her over the head with a crowbar.
