SUN VALLEY, NV -- Friends of a woman killed in a Sun Valley shooting have set up a bank account to help her four children.
50-year-old John Richard Harding has been charged with open murder, attempted murder, resisting a public official and the use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies are still investigating the circumstances that led to the death of 40-year-old Candice Weakland. It was just before 11AM Monday, January 20 that the sheriff's office received a report of shots fired on the 5200 block of Carol.
Neighbors were surprised by the shooting that happened on their street Monday morning.
"Right after I heard the shot, I heard yelling, 'You deserve that, you b--ch, you know like that. There were two people screaming at each other," said neighbor Jerry Dolinski, who lives just a few houses away.
Deputies arrived to find one of those people severely injured in front of the house.
"We did see a person laying on the ground out in front of the residence; we moved that person away from the threat zone of the front of the residence," said Lt. Eric Spratley with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
That woman later determined to have died is the only victim of the shooting. It was not easy to get the other person on the property to give himself up. Deputies eventually tased the man, now identified as Harding.
"It's kinda shocking, yes," said Sierra Baltar, who lives across the street from the incident. "We personally did not know him; we might feel a little uneasy at night."
