Fire Official Resigns Amid Teen Sex Charges

A division chief with the Reno Fire Department has resigned amid allegations of inappropriately touching four young girls during a Christmas party, city officials said.
Roy Slate was arrested Feb. 21 on suspicion of open and gross
lewdness with minors. Officials said he resigned last Friday after
four years with the city.
The acts allegedly occurred during a Dec. 11 party for
disadvantaged children. The girls, ages 12 to 16, filed a police
report Jan. 18.
After a monthlong investigation, Slate was interviewed by police
and arrested, authorities said.
Slate was assistant fire chief in Elko in 1997 when he became
fire marshal for the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. He
became acting chief 18 months later.
The Reno and Truckee Meadows departments merged in July 2000.
