The cause of death is still pending for a California snowboarder who died in an apparent accident at Squaw Valley USA ski resort on Friday, the Washoe County coroner said Tuesday.
Thomas Reyneri, 16, of Los Altos was found after he apparently
fell off a narrow bridge and landed face down at the Lake
Tahoe-area resort.
He died about an hour later after he was flown to Washoe Medical
Center in Reno, Nev., county coroner Vernon McCarty said. McCarty
said he awaiting toxicology results before issuing a formal cause
of death.
Friends gathered Monday at Bellarmine College Preparatory
school, which he attended in Los Altos, to remember his life.
"I couldn't believe it," friend Jamie Dunnam said. "It
started to sink in today when I didn't see him at school. He just
wasn't there, and I thought, 'Wow, it's really true. He's gone.' "
Authorities say they don't know what caused Friday's accident
and no witnesses have come forward. Reyneri was found by a ski
patroller who was inspecting a fallen fence where he apparently had
crashed.
Squaw Valley Ski Corp. spokeswoman Savannah Cowley said he
suffered serious injuries as a result of an apparent fall into a
drainage ditch below the Headwall chairlift.
