School principals in Washoe County have declared an impasse in talks with the school district.
The union says the big hang-up is projected cuts in health care
benefits for retirees.
Negotiations between the district and the Washoe School
Principals Association will be turned over to a federal mediator,
who is expected to negotiate with both sides next week.
The district also faced an impasse in lengthy contract
negotiations with the teachers union. An eleventh-hour compromise
over retiree health insurance kept that squabble from going to an
arbitrator in December.
The principals dispute will also go to an arbitrator if a deal
is not reached through mediation.
