After decades of discussion and years on the drawing board, the first leg of the Carson City bypass opened today.
State highway officials expect 15-thousand vehicles a day will
use the freeway and reduce congestion through town.
About 40-thousand vehicles currently use Carson Street to get
through town on a daily basis.
The first link, estimated to cost 120 (m) million dollars,
connects U.S. 395 near Lakeview Hill to U-S 50 east.
The second section to Fairview Drive is expected to take another
two years to complete. A final link to U-S 50 West is scheduled to
be finished by 2010.
