A Douglas County man was killed when his helicopter crashed in flames just minutes after takeoff from the Douglas County airport north of Minden.
Investigators say the helicopter is one of two owned by
41-year-old Patrick Samal, who lives on nearby Kingsbury Grade and
apparently was flying from the valley to his home.
The helicopter went down in a field northwest of Minden and just
southeast of Genoa (jih-NOH'-uh).
A witness told Douglas County sheriff's investigators there was
a loud pop and they saw it going down, scattering parts as it fell.
It exploded in flames on impact.
The National Transportation Safety Board plans to launch an
investigation into the cause.
