RENO, Nev. (AP) - Northern Nevada electricity customers will be paying more under a rate increase approved by the Public Utilities Commission for Sierra Pacific Power Co.
Typical residential customers using 750 kilowatt hours of electricity per month will see a 9.2 percent increase in their monthly bills, from $96.86 to $105.76.
The increase took effect Tuesday.
The new rate allows the utility to recoup costs associated with the new Tracy Generating Station, the company's first new electric power plant to be built in the last decade, as well as other operating costs.
The 541-megawatt plant east of Reno is scheduled for commercial
operation next month.
One megawatt of electricity serves about 600 homes.
