Two children locked in a bathroom and starved for five years. An ordeal that will take them months of hospital care to recover from.

The adults who carried out such disturbing abuse was the children's mother, Regina Rios, her boyfriend Tomas Granados and the grandmother Esther Rios.

All three have since been formally charged with two counts of child abuse, two counts of child neglect and two counts of false imprisonment.

Chrystal Main, the Social Services Chief for Nevada's Division of Child and Family Services, says that in a crisis like this one, the people in Carson City -- and all of Northern Nevada -- pull together as a community and show an outpouring of generosity.

She adds the children could still use winter clothing like jackets, mittens and hats. Also, educational tools like leap pads.

In addition, Carson City's Sheriff's Office has begun a fund at Bank of America. As of monday afternoon, they've collected more than 14-thousand dollars.
