Fernley Officer-Involved Shooting

A Fernley man shot and killed by a Lyon County sheriff's deputy was identified as 21-year-old Joshua A.Brinkley.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at a mobile home
in the Trail End trailer park on Fernley's Main Street.
Authorities said officers were called to the scene after someone
reported that Brinkley had pointed a gun at a 10-year-old boy.
Sheriff's Capt. Allen Veil said a deputy entered the mobile home
and shots were heard minutes later.
Brinkley was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was
injured.
The deputy involved was put on routine administrative leave
pending an investigation. His name was not immediately released.
Some friends and relatives of the victim claim the gun Brinkley
had was not loaded.
Investigators from the Washoe County Crime Lab are assisting in
the investigation.
