A man who pleaded guilty to a kidnapping and attacking a Reno cab driver before forcing her into the Truckee River must serve at least 20 years in prison.
Nineteen-year-old Michael James Celaya pleaded guilty last fall
to attempted murder and kidnapping and robbery with a deadly weapon
for the May attack on 57-year-old female victim.
Police say the woman was robbed, stabbed in the neck and forced
in the river. She fell down an embankment and ended up on a rock in
the swift-flowing water. She was assisted by a motorist who called
the fire department.
Celaya was sentenced today by Washoe District Judge Steven
His co-defendant, Jacob Pratt, was sentenced last fall and must
serve 10 years before becoming eligible for parole.
