Winter Storm Creates Mess

A winter storm that took its time getting over the Sierra spilled into the valleys of western Nevada, creating slick roads and numerous traffic accidents during the morning commute.
White-out conditions were reported in some areas as the storm
accompanied by gusty winds barreled into the Reno-Carson City
corridor with a mixed bag of rain, snow and sleet, depending on the
location.
The Nevada Highway Patrol reported numerous spinouts, fender
benders and rollovers as vehicles skidded on the slushy and
snow-packed roadways.
No serious accidents were reported.
Heavy snow in the mountains around Lake Tahoe began Tuesday
night and continued throughout the day.
Chains or snow tires were required on all Sierra roadways,
including Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and U.S. 50 over Echo
Summit.
Up to 2 feet of snow was reported at some of the higher
elevations.
Forecasters say the latest the storm will be followed by a blast
of cold air from the north, sending daytime highs Thursday and
Friday into the upper 30s and low 40s.
Another storm on the horizon could bring more snow over the
weekend.
