Winds are battering western Nevada and the Sierra ahead of what's expected to be a warm, wet storm.
A high wind warning is posted in the western valleys until four
this afternoon for steady winds of 20 to 40 miles an hour with
gusts to 60. Slide Mountain already has reported a gust of 94 miles
A winter storm warning (CORRECT) takes effect in the Tahoe Basin
at eight this morning. Rain is expected to turn to snow at the
higher elevations with accumulations of about a foot above
seven-thousand feet and up to two feet above eight-thousand feet.
The entire region is under a flash flood watch as possible heavy
rain falling on snow and saturated ground could produce local
stream flooding. No serious flooding is expected.
