Truckee residents are hailing a change in the proposed location for a new, six (m) million dollar museum at the state park that commemorates the ill-fated Donner Party.
California state parks officials' original plan called for
construction of the High Sierra Crossings Museum on the east shore
of Donner Lake.
But in response to widespread opposition to that location,
officials now plan to build the museum near the existing museum at
the east end of Donner Lake Memorial State Park.
Plans call for construction of the museum to begin in April and
to take about 18 months.
The museum will include exhibits about the role of Donner Pass
in California's history.
