After more than a decade of graffiti, weeds and trash....the old "Sparks Outlet Mall" is finally coming down to make way for a new development.
Sparks Mayor Geno Martini says the biggest hold up was the property owner, who may have been asking for too much money.
They wont release details on how the deal was finally sealed, but RED Development out of Kansas City now has a green light from te Sparks City Council to demolish the old outlet mall to make room for a 96-acre, quarter of a billion dollar project that's called "Legends at Sparks Marina."
The developer wants to bring in national retailers and other attractions, similar to what you see in themed-centers in Las Vegas. City officials say the project would make the Sparks Marina a magnet for tourism dollars. The project may also include a new baseball stadium to house a tripple-A team. RED development has said its in negotiations with a top sports company to lure a team to Northern Nevada.
